Festival of Hobbies - Writing and Publishing Non-Fiction (Featuring Alison Jones)
FRIDAY, 17th JANUARY, 2PM
IN THE EVENTS SPACE @ HARLAND WORKS
Have you ever thought about writing a non-fiction book? It might just be one of the most interesting and fulfilling projects you ever undertake. If you have expertise you want to share or curiosity you want to satisfy, the process of researching your topic, clarifying your thinking, and articulating it in an interesting way for others is richly rewarding. And if you have a business, cause or movement you want to promote, writing a book is still one of the best ways to become more visible and to engage the people you need to reach.
But while publishing a book is easier than ever before, writing a good one is as hard as it ever was. Alison Jones has been a publisher for nearly 30 years; she’s written or edited six books of her own and helped authors write hundreds more over that time, and in this talk here at Harland Works, she shares the secrets of moving from an idea to a plan, and a plan to a finished, published book.
Sound like something you’ve always thought about but never known where to start? Alison Jones may be able to help. Alison is the founder of Practical Inspiration Publishing, a pioneering publishing partner for businesses, and host of The Extraordinary Business Book Club, a podcast and community for writers and readers of extraordinary business books.
A veteran of the publishing industry, she worked for 25 years with leading companies such as Chambers, Oxford University Press and Macmillan (as Publisher and then Director of Innovation Strategy at Palgrave Macmillan). She regularly speaks and blogs on the publishing industry, is on the board of the Independent Publishers Guild and Head Judge of the Business Book Awards. She has written and edited several books, most recently This Book Means Business (2018).
So join us in the Events Space on the 17th for a masterclass on writing and publishing content of your own, and just what that could mean for you or your business.
