Our cafe is sponsoring a football team!

We now sponsor a football team. In itself it's nice to help a grassroots team, but we also do it as we think their ethos is spot on.

Brunsmeer AFC under 15s have 4 guiding principles, that we are sure Ted Lasso* would buy into:

  1. Honesty is appreciated.

  2. Positivity is contagious

  3. Respect is earned

  4. Trust is gained.

The coaches don't rant and rave, parents behave and the kids play hard, but fair. They want to win, but win the right way. There are some professionals who could take a leaf out of their book.

Oh and they're girls. They're teenage girls who get up far earlier than they'd like on Saturdays and turn up to matches and training with distinct Kevin and Perry vibes. They are slow starters in matches, but when they get going they play a neat passing game that Blades and Owls fans would envy.

Many teenage girls drop out of sport and it's credit to the club that the girls keep coming. Physical activity is a great anti-dote to the stresses of being a teenager in the 21st century - it's 80 minutes not on Tik Tok too.

The pandemic meant they went months and months not playing. It's great to support them now they're back at Harry Maguire's old club. We were chuffed to host their end of season/ start of season social and look forward to seeing them play over the season.

*Ted Lasso is an American who knows nothing about "soccer" who coaches a Premier League team in a fictional series on Apple TV(7 day free trials available). No spoilers, but his positivity is infectious and is thing is "believe".

We’ll be sharing their progress this season!
