In the face of cataclysmic and dismal news about the decline of insects, one Sheffield person has been doing something positive and has transformed his small terrace garden in Crookes into an insect - and bee - haven. I am currently looking for ideas for things we can do in the courtyard at Harland Works so I went to have a look. I was very inspired. What George has done with his very small space is awesome - and beautiful too.
You can see some of the detail in a feature on BBC Gardeners World where they visited and also on his You Tube channel. You can also buy lip balm from the bees in his garden here.
George kindly agreed to come and look at our courtyard ... and has come up with host of ideas we can explore.
I am delighted to say that George has kindly agreed to come and do a talk for us, at Harland Works, sharing what he’s learnt in developing his own garden and what we might think about doing at Harland Works. He is also about to embark on a new project: he is buying a new house and is going to catalogue the steps he takes to turn a currently barren garden space, into a new wildlife haven on his youtube channel.
He'll be here on Thursday 16th December 6.30 pm - 8 pm talking with tips and ideas to share about what we can do in our gardens.
