A wine tasting event centred around Shiraz is a memorable experience for wine enthusiasts. The Shiraz wine tasting is an ideal opportunity for wine enthusiasts to expand their knowledge of this complex and versatile wine varietal, meet other like-minded individuals, and enjoy a memorable and enjoyable wine experience. Sarah Fairey our resident wine expert will guide you through the tasting, providing insights into the different Shiraz wines.
The name 'Shiraz' has a long and distinguished history: wines from Shiraz in Iran were considered to be the world's finest wines in the 9th Century. Through the 17th - 19th century European travellers raved about the fine wines from this region which were not red but white. Marco Polo wrote about them, and their praises are sung in the Persian Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. The modern Shiraz grape is different though! Also known as Syrah, it was collected by James Busby (the father of Australian Wine) and used in Australia's wine success. It can make deep red wines, with a peppery finish or a lighter, more perfumed red. Delicious!
There will be cheese boards sourced from and paired by Cheese Factor of Chesterfield who will come up with cheeses to help balance the wines, and give you enough ballast to keep going with tasting all 5 wines!
Wines will be provided by Sheffield wine merchants Le Bon Vin.
