Getting to grips with Google Analytics for Business
For lots of tenants at Harland Works, it’s important that their businesses are findable online. This is particularly true for people who sell things via online shops - but websites are also the way that people find out about local yoga sessions, pottery classes, event space to hire, cafes… and event units to rent at Harland Works!
Google Analytics is a FREE tool which can help you understand how well your online presence is working for you. It can tell you how many people are visiting your online shop or website; it can show you which pages they are visiting; it can tell you a bit about them (age, gender, location) and it can tell you how they found your website.
For example if I ask Google Analytics about visitors to the Harland Works website for the past week it tells me that yesterday was my busiest day, and that most people come to the website via a google search.
Although it’s free, it’s a really powerful tool. But lots of people don’t use it - and this is understandable because when you open up the Google Analytics dashboard you can get immediately overwhelmed with data!
To combat these feelings of overwhelm we’ve started a small weekly Google Mondays meet-up at Harland Works. We will meet weekly for the next 5 weeks and work our way through a course on Google Analytics together.
The idea of doing it in a small group is that it helps us to prioritise it and get it done.
Also doing it with other people can also make the whole business of spending time figuring out digital marketing a bit more fun: other people’s businesses are always interesting and hearing what they are doing makes a nice change to thinking about your own business … and can give you some new ideas to try.
We still have space for one or two more business owners who would like to join us. It probably suits someone who is already using google advertising as it has to be something that you feel will be worth spending 5 weekly sessions on. Get in touch if you’re interested: the next meeting is Monday 10th at Harland Works.
