This Week at Harland Works: "Homecoming" - An Exhibition by Denise Wrightson
This week, Harland Works is delighted to welcome our first artist’s exhibition in our fantastic Events Space!
“Homecoming” is a collection of 50 paintings by local artist Denise Wrightson and will be on display between Friday and Sunday this week (times below).
Denise, who is a landscape painter of the Peak District here in the UK and the Olive Groves of Puglia in Southern Italy, is a Sheffield alumni; studying at what was Sheffield Polytechnic in 1979 towards BA in Fine Art. After she finished, she moved to London and latterly ran an applied sculpture business there until 2015, before a life-changing move to Southern Italy saw her rediscovering her desire to paint again. She returned in 2018 - not to London, but to Sheffield, where she now paints full time.
‘Homecoming’ reflects the journey that Denise has been on since her days as an art student and she says “I’ve come home to Sheffield because, as a landscape painter, I couldn’t imagine anywhere i’d rather be than here, on the edge of the Peak District amongst the lovely people of Sheffield. It’s such a friendly, warm and welcoming city with a truly vibrant artist community”.
As well as exhibitions, the Harland Works Event Space is available for hire as a unique, contemporary and versatile function room holding up to 50 people. ‘Homecoming’ is open from Friday 6th December (6pm-9pm) for the opening, Saturday 7th (2pm-6pm) and Sunday 8th (11am-4pm)
